Recipe Variations

  • Add protein: For extra protein and a creamier texture, add Greek yogurt or vanilla yogurt to this recipe. Use equal parts yogurt and blueberries.
  • Other fruit: If you don’t have blueberries on hand, or prefer a different flavor, substitute with cherries, raspberries, blackberries, or even peaches.
  • Add lemon juice and zest, or basil for extra flavor.

Recipe FAQs

How long does it take to make a popsicle?

The process to make these blueberry popsicles only takes about 15 minutes to get them to the freezer. Once you have them in the molds, which takes about 15 minutes, you’ll place them in the freezer for 3 hours.

How to easily remove blueberry popsicles from the molds

The secret to removing these blueberry popsicles from the molds easily is by running them under warm water for a few seconds before pulling them out of the mold.

Tip the molds sideways and run the popsicle you want out under the warm water for about 10 seconds. Gently pull on the stick to loosen. If it doesn’t come out easily, run it under the water for a few more seconds!

How do you make popsicles creamy and not icy?

To make popsicles creamy instead of icy, you need to add fat, sugar, or a stabilizer to prevent ice crystals from forming. We’re using sugar in the form of honey because it lowers the freezing point and keeps them softer. Adding in a fat like greek yogurt or full fat coconut milk adds a creamy, rich effect.

  • 4 cups fresh blueberries frozen works too
  • cup honey
  • cup fresh basil optional

Instructions

  • In a blender or a food processor, add the blueberries, honey, and optional basil. Turn on high and blend until the mixture is smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
4 cups fresh blueberries, ⅓ cup fresh basil, ⅓ cup honey

Notes

Frozen Blueberries.  Frozen blueberries can be used as well but will taste a little more tart.
Other Fruit. Substitute equally with ,or mix with, mango, pineapple, raspberries, blackberries, or cherries.
Blueberry yogurt popsicles. Swap 2 cups of the blueberries for 2 cups of plain or vanilla greek yogurt. So it will be 2 cups of blueberries and 2 cups of yogurt.
No Popsicle Molds. Pour the mixture into small paper cups and add a popsicle stick to the center and freeze!
Storage: Homemade blueberry ice pops typically last about 1 to 3 months in the freezer for best quality, flavor, and texture.
