⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “This is one of my go-to recipes. It’s so easy and everyone loves it. I sprinkle peanut butter chips on top before refrigerating to add a bit more peanut butter flavor.” – Julie
Ingredients You’ll Need

- Cream cheese: Make an even lighter version with Greek yogurt, whipped cottage cheese, or whipped cream.
- Creamy peanut butter: Substitute with a nut-free butter like sunflower butter, cashew butter, or cookie butter.
- Butter, vanilla, powdered sugar and brown sugar
- All purpose flour: Heat-treated in the microwave for 30 seconds so you can enjoy it safely while it is raw.
- Mini semi-sweet chocolate chips: Try dark chocolate or milk chocolate chips as well.
How to Make Buckeye Dip

- Cream the cream cheese, butter, and peanut butter until smooth.

- Add in the powdered sugar, brown sugar, flour and vanilla.

- Mix in the chocolate chips.

- Serve with graham crackers or apples.
Expert Tips
- Let cream cheese sit at room temp for 30 minutes, making it easier to stir.
- Don’t overmix at the end—overmixing can deflate it.
- Use regular creamy peanut butter (like Jif or Skippy), not natural or oily kinds. Natural peanut butter tends to separate and can make the dip greasy.
- If the dip sits in the fridge for a while, give it a gentle stir before putting it out again.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving so the flavors meld and texture firms up.
Frequently Asked Questions
The buckeye candy is a round ball of peanut butter mixed with powdered sugar and dipped and almost, but not completely, covered in chocolate. It’s made to look like the nut that falls from Ohio’s state tree, the buckeye.
If you’re looking to replace peanut butter in buckeye dip, whether you’re dealing with allergies, dietary preferences, or just a flavor change, you can try almond butter, cookie butter, cashew butter, or sunflower butter. Texture may vary slightly, so adjust with a little extra powdered sugar or cream cheese if needed.
Yes, you can make buckeye dip without cream cheese — and there are a few good substitutes depending on your dietary needs and the texture you want! Try whipped cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, or whipped cream.

Can you use regular chocolate chip bits, and stood of the mini ones?
Sure!
It turned out absolutely amazing. I wrote down a Buckeye dip recipe from somewhere. I’m not sure where, the one thing I left out… peanut butter and how much. It wasn’t even on the list of ingredients not sure how I missed that one. So when I began to look up Buckeye dip recipes they were giving me all kinds of things that my dip didn’t have so I was trying to find the one that only included the ingredients that I knew I haf made before. This one was perfect. Thank you so much. My husband is addicted, and has been since the first time I made it. I’m trying to find the other recipes suggested on your site when I found this recipe. (Sugar cookie dip and I can’t even remember the rest) I’m not having any luck.
Love the Dip. Can you freeze it? Thanks
Hi Mary! Yes, you can freeze this dip! It freezes surprisingly well because it’s mostly cream cheese, butter, and peanut butter. Just store it in an airtight container, freeze up to 2–3 months, and thaw it in the fridge overnight. Give it a good stir before serving to smooth it back out. If it feels too stiff after thawing, mix in 1–2 teaspoons of milk or cream to loosen it.
Tastes good, but not creamy enough for dip.
Thanks Peggy!
We love this recipe! I am making it today for the cotton bowl game tonight! Love it! Thank You! Go Bucks!
What’s the purpose of the flour?
To thicken a bit, but you could leave it out!
This is so addictive! Easy to make and take for any tailgating party! This is the second time I made it in two weeks.
Love it, thanks Leah!
I have made this a few times and everytime it turns out great. I’m actually gonna be making it again tonight. Thanks for the recipe.
Welcome!
Oh my goodness!! The best sweet dip I’ve ever tried. Made it exactly to recipe. Thank you Ohio.
Kansan
You’re so welcome!!
Great stuff🥰 yummy
Thanks!!
Loved your buckeye dip recipe!!
Thank you, Jaime!! Don’t forget to add the star rating if you can:)
The picture makes it look nice and smooth. Mine turned out gritty like cookie dough – yes I owed every step and used the exact ingredients. I wasn’t impressed with the flavor. I wouldn’t make it again.
Hey Sarah! Did you use softened butter and cream cheese? Wondering if you use granulated sugar instead of powdered sugar? There’s nothing in this recipe that should yield a gritty texture. Thanks!
I have never heard of or made flour in the microwave. ??? Can you explain this please. I want to make this!
Hi Chris! Popping the flour in the microwave just ensures any harmful bacteria is killed prior to eating it raw. Thanks!
Can I use almond flour instead of all purpose? If so, would it still be ¼ cup or would almond take a different amount?
Hey there! Unfortunately you can’t swap almond flour with AP flour 1:1. Almond flour absorbs more moisture and has a different texture. I haven’t tried it this way, but if I did, I would start with 1 Tbsp and add more slowly as needed. Let me know if you try it! If you want a 1:1 swap I would go with gluten-free all purpose flour like Bob’s Red Mill or King Arthur’s. Thanks!
The recipes look delicious
Thanks!!
I’ve been meaning to make this for a long time. Finally made it and took it to work today. Everyone loved it! Even my boss that doesn’t eat sweets much, loved it. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I do have to change the name of it though………. a Michigan fan. lol 😁❤️
Lol!! Fair enough! Thanks for taking the time to share. Glad you like it!
Why is there butter and raw flour in this recipe? Every other recipe for this dip uses cool whip! It also got hard as rock in fridge.
Mine did to. Need to know what to do with it to soften it back up?
You can let it sit out at room temp to soften up!
I made this for my friend’s baby shower last week and it was a huge hit!! This and deciding to hire professional carpet cleaners right before the party were definitely the reasons the event was such a success haha. All jokes aside, this dip is delicious! Will absolutely be making this again!!
I’m guessing the reason why you microwave the flour is because people shouldn’t eat “raw” flour. By microwaving the flour it kills whatever is “bad”?
I’ve made this every year for at least one Buckeyes game! It’s Yummy! O-H!
I-O
🙂
Can u sub corn starch for the flour?
No you can’t sub corn starch but you could try a gluten-free flour like Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 flour. You can check out our healthy cookie dough recipe that’s similar too and it uses almond flour.
Raw flour can carry Salmonella, is there an alternative you would suggest?
Yes, you can leave it out or heat-treat it by microwaving the flour for a minute! I will update that!
Excellent! Bringing to our tailgating party tonight!
This was a hit at a family get together. Thanks for sharing. Do you think you could freeze it?
how much cbd is proper
This is one of my go-to recipes. It’s so easy and everyone loves it. I sprinkle peanut butter chips on top before refrigerating to add a bit more peanut butter flavor.
Thanks, Julie!! Love to hear that!
Do you use salted or unsalted butter?
Hey Kim! We use unsalted butter. That way you can adjust the salt to your liking.
How in the world is this considered a healthy dessert with all that sugar?!? It’s yummy, however, NOT healthy.
No this one is definitely not healthy! I don’t think I claimed for it to be! Just a good, crowd-pleasing dessert:)
It says right in the beginning of the post that it’s a healthy tailgating dessert?
That was an error! This is more of a splurge:)
My coworkers loved this-so yummy!! You wouldn’t happen to know any nutritional info?
HI Molly I’m going to make this buckeye dip today how long can this last in the refrigerator?
I might make this one day.
Do it!!!
Molly – Just curious – Do you think the flour could be omitted?
Hey! Yep, definitely. I’ve made it without the flour before and it was still good! Consistency is slightly different, but not a big deal.

There are no eggs and that’s why microwaving the flour is recommended
I made this for my coworkers and they were so mad when it was all gone, so I had to make it again!! So I have made 4 batches in 3 days. Great, easy recipe!
That made my day!!! Thank you so much for sharing! So glad you (and your coworkers) love it ?
