Our Story

Our founder, Molly Thompson, got her first cookbook (Teen’s Cook) from a friend and fell in love with baking banana bread and scones at just 13. Five years later (2015), that same friend and Molly launched What Molly Made as a way to stay connected—and it quickly blossomed into a full-blown passion project.

After three years working in marketing, Molly felt a strong pull toward the kitchen. She spent early mornings, weekends, and every spare minute testing and perfecting recipes. What started with indulgent desserts grew into a love for creating healthy, everyday meals that are just as delicious—because you really can have both.

In 2018, Molly was diagnosed with PCOS. That experience deepened her commitment to using real, nourishing ingredients to support overall health. With the help of a functional CNP, she learned to manage her symptoms through food and lifestyle changes, and it inspired her to share more meals that help people feel good inside and out.

Now, Molly’s focus is on creating simple, flavorful recipes that are doable for busy families, nourishing for the body, and satisfying to eat. Whether it’s a cozy weeknight dinner, a high-protein breakfast, or a delicious dessert, her goal is to help people feel more confident in the kitchen.

After ten years, three kids, a challenging diagnosis, and hundreds of recipes, Molly has found balance in her love of baking, healthy cooking, and feeding her family well. What Molly Made is a space where real food meets real life—full of approachable meals and meaningful moments around the table.

A balance of healthy and indulgent

You’ll find a mix of hormone-friendly meals, better-for-you snacks, and some cozy comfort food (because sometimes you just need the nutella brownie). It’s all about balance that feels good—not restriction.

Inspired, not appropriated

From time to time, we take inspiration from a variety of cuisines. We always aim to honor the origin of those dishes and share them with respect—while making them accessible to your everyday kitchen.

Substitutions and flexibility

Whether you have an allergy, dietary need, or just want to swap ingredients, most recipes include tips and variations. And if you ever need help, just leave a comment—Molly reads and replies to all of them!

Tested, and family-approved

Every recipe is thoroughly researched and tested (usually many times!). They’re tasted by Molly’s own family—including two toddlers and a husband who keeps it honest. If it doesn’t work or isn’t worth repeating, it doesn’t make it on the site.

Frequently Asked questions

Are all of your recipes gluten-free and dairy-free?

A lot of them are, but not all of them! I focus on gluten-free recipes made with whole, real ingredients. When a recipe includes those ingredients, I always try to offer substitutions. With so many great brands and substitutions now I’m able to offer a lot of recipe variation and include gluten-free and dairy-free recommendations as needed.

What if I’m new to cooking or baking?

You’re in the right place. My recipes are designed to be simple, approachable, and easy to follow, even for beginners. I include clear steps, tips, and step-by-step visuals whenever possible.

Do you test your recipes before sharing them?

Yes—multiple times! I only share recipes that my family actually eat and love. If something doesn’t turn out right, it won’t make it on the blog. I have a kitchen assistant and food photographer who help out, so many times the recipes are made by different people in different kitchens before making it on the site.

Can I share your recipe on social media or my website?

Feel free to share a photo or a link back to the recipe, but please don’t copy and paste the full recipe text on your blog or social. I put a lot of love into developing and testing each one!

Do you have meal plans?

Yes! You can join the newsletter for free meal plans or get exclusive plans inside the Guaca Molly Club, my premium membership with ad-free access, customizable meal planning, and more.

How often do you publish new recipes?

I share new recipes regularly—especially seasonal ones! There’s a new one at least once a week, but sometimes more. Follow me on Instagram or sign up for my newsletter to get the latest.
