Tequila Mule

5 from 2 votes
This Tequila Mule, also known as a Mexican Mule, is a zesty twist on the classic Moscow Mule. With smooth tequila, fresh lime juice, and fiery ginger beer, it’s the easiest 5-minute cocktail to shake up for Cinco de Mayo, taco night, or any time you want something crisp and refreshing.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 oz tequila
  • 2 oz lime juice (2-3 limes)
  • 1 oz agave or honey
  • 1-2 cups crushed ice plus more for shaking
  • 6-8 oz ginger beer
  • Lime wedge and mint to garnish (jalapeño optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add the tequila, agave, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker with crushed ice. Don’t add the ginger beer (shaking and carbonation doesn’t go well). Shake the cocktail vigorously for at least 30 seconds.
3 oz tequila, 2 oz lime juice, 1-2 cups crushed ice, 1 oz agave
  • Fill copper cups with ice cubes or crushed ice and pour the cocktail on top. Add ginger beer and stir. Garnish with a sprig of mint, jalapeño slices, and fresh lime wedges.

Recipe Equipment

Cocktail shaker
Hand Juicer
Copper mugs

Notes

Lighter version: Use less agave in the simple syrup and use a light ginger beer to top.
Non-alcoholic option (love a good mocktail!): Omit the tequila and replace it with equal parts club soda or a lime flavored soda water (like LaCroix). Instead of shaking, stir the ingredients together in a tall glass.
Make ahead: Measure and stir the lime juice, tequila, and agave in a large jar or pitcher for up to a day. Stir or shake well then serve with ginger beer.
