Recipe FAQs

What kind of salmon should I buy?

I recommend getting salmon from the seafood counter. Look for keywords like “wild caught” to get the best quality salmon. They may not say the specific species of salmon it is, but it’s always a great and healthy option to use.
Note the Sockeye salmon is usually deeper in salmon color and a little stronger in flavor. It usually means its farm raised if says “Atlantic salmon.”  It’s not the worst to eat this, but if you have the option between wild caught and Atlantic go with wild caught!
You can also include salmon/seafood as part of your Butcher Box order. All of their salmon is wild caught and shipped straight to your door each month!

Why is salmon good for you?

Salmon is great for you because it’s full of nutrients including potassium, selenium, vitamin B12 and lots of omega-3 fatty acids. Not to mention it’s a great source of high-quality protein!

Do you take the skin off salmon?

Deciding to take the skin off salmon is totally up to you! Some people just don’t like it on because it’s easier to eat if it’s off. However, I find that salmon stays juicier after cooking if you leave the skin on so I opt to do that. You’ll just cook it skin-side down in the oven!

Grab These Ingredients

Here are the simple ingredients for this honey-glazed salmon recipe. Most are pantry staples and easy (and affordable) to find it the grocery store. Jump down to the recipe card for exact measurements and nutritional information.

  • Fresh salmon filets: Boneless with skin on. If the salmon has any gray blemishes or brown areas, that’s a good indication it’s not that fresh.
  • Sea salt: Kosher salt is best for cooking.
  • Black pepper: For seasoning.
  • Raw honey: For natural sweetness.
  • Coconut aminos: You can use soy sauce (or low sodium soy sauce) if you’re not gluten-free.
  • Garlic: Fresh, minced garlic is best.
  • Lime: Fresh squeezed lime juice. Substitute with lemon juice if needed.
  • Green onion: Optional to garnish.
  • Rice, quinoa, or roasted veggies: For serving.

How To Make Honey Glazed Salmon

Simmer the Honey Glaze

Whisk the honey glaze ingredients in a large oven-safe skillet until the cornstarch is dissolved. Bring it to a gentle boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently for 1-2 minutes, until thickened. Transfer the glaze to a separate bowl, removing as much as possible from the bottom of the pan.

Prep the Salmon

Pat the salmon dry and place it in a medium bowl. Drizzle with 1 Tbsp olive oil and toss with salt, paprika, and red pepper flakes.

Sear, Glaze, and Bake the Salmon

Heat more olive oil in the same pan over medium-high heat. Place the salmon flesh-side-down and sear for 2-3 minutes. Flip it over, and pour drizzle a bit of the honey glaze on top of each filet, spreading it with the back of the spoon. Transfer the pan to the middle rack position of the oven and bake at 425°F 8-11 minutes or until the internal temperature of the salmon reaches 125-130°F with a meat thermometer.

Success tip: Don’t dip the spoon back into the glaze after touching the salmon to avoid cross-contamination (we’re using the glaze on the cooked salmon!).

Glaze Again and Serve

Brush the glaze all over the baked salmon before serving. Add some fresh parsley and serve with your favorite veggies and rice!

Is Honey Glazed Salmon Healthy?

This honey glazed salmon recipe is very healthy! It’s naturally gluten-free and dairy-free and it fits well into a vegetarian diet and gives you lots of healthy protein and fatty acids.

I like to use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce because soy sauce has gluten in it. You can find coconut aminos on Amazon or at most grocery stores.

What is a Good Side Dish with Salmon?

I love to pair my salmon with a healthy carb and veggies. Here are a few of my favorites:

Carbs: On a bed of rice like white rice, coconut rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice, or quinoa.

Brussels sprouts: Roasted brussels sprouts, shaved brussel sprout salad, or crispy balsamic brussel sprouts.

Other veggies: Roasted broccoli, air fryer asparagus, roasted broccoli and carrots, and pretty much any vegetable side dish!

Storage and Reheating

  • To store: Store leftover salmon in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. It’s great to top salads or put in tacos the next day.
  • To reheat: The best way to reheat is in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little olive oil to the pan and cook until the salmon and honey garlic glaze is warm all the way through. You can also microwave it on high in 30 second increments until warmed through.

Servings: 4 salmon filets

Ingredients

Honey Glaze

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (juice from 1 lemon)
  • 3 Tablespoons honey
  • 6 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

Salmon

  • 4 (6-ounce) salmon filets (Note 1)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Chopped green onion or parsley for serving optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F and arrange the oven rack to the middle position. If the rack is too close to the top of the oven, the honey in the glaze may burn. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper.
  • Make the honey glaze: Whisk the honey glaze ingredients in a large oven-safe skillet until the cornstarch is dissolved. Bring it to a gentle boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently for 1-2 minutes, until thickened. Transfer the glaze to a separate bowl, removing as much as possible from the bottom of the pan so it doesn't burn while you sear the salmon.
  • Season the salmon: Pat the salmon dry and place it in a medium bowl or on a cutting board. Drizzle with 1 Tablespoon of olive oil and toss with salt, paprika, and red pepper flakes.
  • Glaze the salmon: Heat another drizzle of olive oil in the same pan over medium-high heat. Place the salmon in the pan, flesh-side-down, and sear for 2-3 minutes. Flip the salmon over and drizzle a teaspoon or two of the prepared glaze on top of each filet. Use the back of a spoon to spread it on top. Be careful not to dip the spoon back into the glaze because you'll need it when the salmon is baked.
  • Bake the salmon: Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Bake in the preheated oven until the internal temperature of the salmon reaches 125-130°F, 8-11 minutes.
  • Glaze and serve: Brush the remaining glaze over the salmon and serve with green onion or parsley, rice, or roasted veggies.
Last step! If you make this, please leave a review letting us know how it was!

Notes

Note 1. Salmon. You can purchase salmon with the skin off and you’ll get the similar results. I just prefer skin on because it helps prevent the salmon from burning.
Storage: Store leftover salmon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

You mentioned a large sheep pan, but what’s it for? Your recipe says to cook the salmon in a pan.

Sorry about that, Lisa! I tested this recipe several times, on a sheet pan and in a pan, and I must have left that in there as a typo. Thanks!
